Beth Lasita, Owner, Pinnacle Construction of Austin, Inc, and Co-owner, Grove Wine Bar and Kitchen
Beth Selbe Lasita, what do you do for work and how do you spend your time?
Pinnacle’s founder, Beth Selbe Lasita, has been in the construction industry since 1981. Beth began working as a buyer for a homebuilder in McAllen, Texas. Within months, she advanced into project management and relocated to San Antonio where she worked as a PM assistant in the industrial warehouse shell construction. After visiting friends in Austin, Beth knew this was to become her home. In 1984, she joined an Austin company specializing in restaurant construction. For the first three years she was the manager of estimating and successfully obtained company contracts ranging from $500,000 to $2,000,000 locally and throughout the United States. Advancing within the company, she began Project Management, overseeing their construction finish-out division; it was here she got the idea to start her own business. In 1989, at the age of 26, Beth organized Pinnacle Construction and later incorporated as Pinnacle Construction of Austin, Inc. Today Beth and Pinnacle Construction of Austin are well recognized for their work in the entertainment building industry completing over 350 restaurant/hospitality projects as well as numerous high end retail stores.
Combining her love of food and extensive experience in restaurant development, Beth partnered with long time Austin restaurateur creating Grove Wine Bar and Kitchen. After opening the first location in Westlake, December 2007, Beth and her partners, Reed Clemons and Matt Berendt have followed up with 4 additional locations, Lakeway, Downtown, Cedar Park, and most recently Domain Northside. Beth works directly with her partners on menu, marketing, finance, construction and development.
Describe your personal style
Classic – I am a minimalist on clothes, nothing loud – love to accessorize with jewelry, bags and shoes – I could live naked with a good pair of shoes!
Do you have a favorite RB piece or outfit that stands out or is you feel good go to?
A long spaghetti strap Rory Becca dress with a tasteful slit up the front – maroon with dark fall colors – I have worn it to various events with an awesome pair of gold platforms – Always received so many compliments – Biggest compliment is my daughter wanting to borrow it!
Why do you shop at RedBird Boutique?
Being an Austin Entrepreneur, I love to support local businesses, especially women owned. Having met Maureen through school, I always admired her diverse sense of style. Her creative was shown through her earlier businesses in fashion and creating unique jewelry. Maureen supported my business and honored me with letting me build out her store.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I am known for being a foodie – so people are always surprised that I don’t eat any Poultry or the eggs they produce!
Do you have a winning party trick?
No tricks but my husband, Tony, and I love to host parties – we enjoy opening our home, cooking and entertaining – I love to fill our home with fresh flowers, set a beautiful table, maybe add classic theme décor – I am also known for starting after dinner dance parties!
What is your daily mantra?
Start and end my date grateful.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
So many- Biggest is people interrupting – you are telling the person communicating that what they are saying is not important – think about it!
Who has been your greatest mentor in business? In life?
My mother, my best friend and mentor. If I had half her grace and compassion, I would be a Saint. She taught me to never be afraid to try something I believed in (life or business). When I told her I was thinking about starting a construction company, she simply said “why not”? I had no good answer. I lost her 10 years ago and miss her ever single day. I can’t leave dad out as he taught me accountability.
Never question my choices… They will not always be the right ones – But they will be mine – choices can result in success and failure but are always educational.
If there was a movie made about your life, who would play you?
I had to ask my office team – Reese Witherspoon – not because we look alike – We are both sassy, funny and driven (she also has some great shoes)
What song would HAVE to be in the soundtrack?
“Raise your Glass” or a song written for me by Pink! Must make you want to dance!
Most exciting or dangerous thing you have ever done?
Before becoming a mother, I would have said starting a business at 26 in a male dominant industry…
How would you like to be remembered?
For doing it all! A wonderful wife, mother, friend – A successful, fearless, trend setting business woman.
If you could receive any award, what would it be for?
Best shoe collection!
