Suellen Young, Owner Le Garage Sale, and Realtor with Wilson Goldrick Realtors
Suellen Young, what do you do for work and how do you spend your time?
I guess you could say that I have 2 “jobs”—the Owner of Le Garage Sale & a Realtor with Wilson Goldrick Realtors.
As the “Commander in Chief” of Le Garage Sale……I coordinate & market Le Garage Sale, the legendary, Austin-born (est. 2001), semi annual shopping event that pulls 100+ independent/local boutiques, designers & brands together under one roof—-offering insane, end of season pricing for one weekend only. Caffeine, cocktails, giveaways and the best DJ ever! Next event: Aug. 24-25 @ Palmer Events Center (www.legaragesale.net).
I’m also a Realtor with Wilson & Goldrick Realtors, a locally owned Real Estate Brokerage. We specialize in the sale of luxury homes in Westlake, but we work throughout the Austin area. For me, I love helping my Clients find the house they want to call “home” –and the process of marketing a home to potential Buyers.
I’ve always been passionate about fashion/style/interior design/architecture—producing Le Garage Sale & selling real estate allow me to do what I love…& love what I do.
Outside of work, I love to spend time on Lake Austin with family & friends, explore new local restaurants & boutiques, visit my daughters (in Fayetteville, Ar & Birmingham, AL)…..or sit on the back porch with my husband, our dogs, a bottle of wine, candles lit & a Leon Bridges playlist.
Describe your personal style:
Simple, chic, unstructured …a lot of solids…. with bold accessories/jewelry …and always, a little bit of rock and roll flair.
Do you have a favorite RB piece or outfit that stands out or is you feel good go to?
SO many faves….the pieces that I wear almost daily (receive the most compliments on) are my statement accessories: oversized turquoise necklace & ring; Jenny Bird chain bracelets & necklace, my Chan Luu scarf collection. My “pewter Stardust leather” boots by Calleen Codera are definitely show-stoppers…and can’t live without my tunic dresses by Sen & Enza Costa — timeless and can be dressed up or down.
Why do you shop at RedBird Boutique:
I shop RedBird because I can pop in & (always) find something fresh, unique, on trend—often a piece that I will wear for several years. The store is beautiful, the location is primo & parking is a breeze. And bonus….
Maureen & her staff 100% get my style—so my husband knows that he always “wins” with a gift from RedBird!
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I met my husband at the sweet, young age of 19, we’ve been happily married for 29 years.
Do you have a winning party trick?
At one time, I could rapid fire recite the books of the Bible in order (Baptist upbringing). I might need to brush up on that before a challenge now!
What is your daily mantra?
“Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many.” After losing a friend unexpectedly last year at age 50, I’ve tied to re-shape my focus to be grateful for the opportunity to grow old…..wrinkles & all….
Who has been your greatest mentor in business? In life?
In Real Estate biz: Cindy Goldrick, my Broker at Wilson Goldrick. She is smart as a whip, kind-hearted, quick witted, always in a good mood & well liked / respected by her industry peers.
With Le Garage Sale: the Owners of the boutiques I work with. They are the most driven, hard-working, passionate people I know. It’s not easy to compete with the big box stores/Amazons of the world today—but they are the brains behind the independent/local businesses that give Austin it’s true personality. They inspire me.
In life: My Mom. She finds the good in every situation and is a master with written words. Her words have given my encouragement & clarity many times over the years. She is independent and strong–but fiercely loves her husband, family & friends.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
“When the going gets tough, the tough get going” — Old school …but still rings true.
All time favorite movie? Why?
(not a huge movie/tv buff—when I sit still, I fall asleep!)
What song would HAVE to be the soundtrack to your life?
The playlist/soundtrack to my life would have to include The Jesus & Mary Chain, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Cult, U2, (clearly I’m a child of the 80’s!)….Black Keys, Donavon Frankenreiter, Leon Bridges.
Most exciting or dangerous thing you have ever done?
The Starck Club, late 80’s. Exciting and dangerous!
How would you like to be remembered?
Kind, loving, interesting, honest, grateful, happy.
If you could receive any award, what would it be for?
Multi tasking (It’s a curse!)
